Resources for Educators

Passion and the right tools were the main ingredients that allowed us to imagine and then create this incredible international adventure! We - the two teachers - met in Edmodo, which is a Professional Learning Network besides offering free and safe digital classrooms for students. So it was all too natural to go on using the same environment for the Project.

We would like to share with you what we did, because we believe that this experience can be replicated - not necessarily in its entirety - with other groups of teenagers. Ours ranged from 15 to 17.

A piece of advice: along the way we discovered that this issue is vast and sometimes complex to understand. If we were to repeat the project, we would probably choose only a part of it.

Please feel free to use, copy and modify our resources according to your needs. New generations of knowledgeable and sensitive people may change the world!

Edmodo: our digital platform

Edmodo was the "place" where the two groups of students met, described themselves, chatted, debated, exchanged materials with their teachers and international teams. Everything safe, everything in one place. And free!

Digital Tools

Other important digital tools we used

The students wrote collaboratively on shared Google Docs. Edmodo offers integration with Google Drive, so that it was not necessary to close and open programs. Work was seamless. Many of us chose Tackk (a tool for the creation of digital leaflets/posters) to introduce ourselves, because you can use your Edmodo credentials to log in. PowerPoint by Microsoft was the favourite tool to build presentations, but not the only one, with Impress from the OpenOffice suite and Keynote by Apple coming next. For our online presentations, we used SlideShare and Fliphtml5 (for the eBooks with flipping pages).

This site was built collaboratively by the two teachers on Wix, a robust but easy platform for creating professional-looking websites.
