Slavery in modern Greece

Although it isn’t widely known, slavery does exist in modern Greece, at a great amount. Specifically, in 2013 the official figures were: 106 identified slaves (52 males, 47 females and 7 children) as well as 20,000 female victims of sexual exploitation (1,000 of them were girls, aged 13-15). Most of them originate from poor, developing countries. The saddest thing was that the government of Greece didn’t take fundamental measures to decrease the phenomenon. However, in contrast with the past, the Greek state is making some effort in order to eliminate trafficking.
